Southern Governors Mourn Kwara Attack Victims, Condemn Killings of 162 Residents
The Southern Governors’ Forum has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the Government and people of Kwara State following the deadly terrorist attacks that reportedly claimed at least 162 lives in Woro and Nuku villages in Kaiama Local Government Area (LGA).
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, described the incident as a tragic and senseless act of violence against innocent citizens. He lamented that the victims were law-abiding residents who were brutally murdered while going about their lawful daily activities.
Governor Abiodun said the scale of the killings has left the nation in shock and grief, stressing that such attacks represent a grave threat to national peace, unity, and security. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Kaiama LGA, and the entire Kwara State Government over what he termed a dark moment in the state’s history.
The Forum called for urgent and decisive action by security agencies to track down the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice. It also urged strengthened security measures and intelligence coordination to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.
Reaffirming their collective commitment to national stability, the Southern Governors emphasized the need for unity among states and continued collaboration with federal authorities to confront terrorism and criminal violence across the country.
The governors prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims and for comfort and healing for affected families and communities.
