Fuel Scarcity Hits Enugu Over Dangote, NUPENG Dispute

Residents of Enugu State are currently facing severe fuel scarcity following a dispute between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). The disagreement, which reportedly centers on distribution rights and pricing issues, has disrupted the supply of fuel across major filling stations in the state.

Long queues resurfaced at petrol stations in Enugu metropolis on Tuesday, with some outlets shutting down operations due to lack of supply. Transport fares have also doubled, worsening the hardship for commuters and traders.

Motorists expressed frustration over the sudden scarcity, calling on the federal government to intervene immediately to prevent the situation from escalating further. “We have been on this queue since morning and there’s no guarantee we’ll get fuel today,” one driver lamented.

Industry sources say negotiations between Dangote Refinery management and NUPENG leaders are ongoing, but no resolution has been reached. Authorities have, however, assured residents that efforts are being made to restore normal fuel distribution in the state.

The situation has sparked concerns that if left unresolved, the crisis may spread to other southeastern states, further straining economic activities in the region.
