Excisable Goods: MAN Cautions FG on Introduction of Tax Stamp

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has cautioned the Federal Government over its proposed introduction of tax stamps on excisable goods. MAN warned that the policy could worsen the already high cost of doing business in the country and further strain local manufacturers battling inflation, forex volatility, and rising energy costs.

According to MAN, while government’s efforts to boost revenue are understandable, additional levies could stifle competitiveness, encourage smuggling, and push genuine businesses into distress. The association urged the government to engage stakeholders and explore alternative revenue measures that would not jeopardize industrial growth and job creation.

MAN also emphasized that policies targeted at the manufacturing sector must strike a balance between fiscal objectives and the urgent need to strengthen local production capacity in line with Nigeria’s economic recovery agenda.
