Nigeria-China Trade Reaches $15.48 Billion in First Half of 2025
Bilateral trade between Nigeria and China has surged to $15.48 billion in the first seven months of 2025, marking a 34.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth underscores the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
Yan Yuqing, the Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Lagos, announced this development during a reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Nigeria's 64th independence anniversary, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. She highlighted that Nigeria has now become China's second-largest trading partner in Africa, following the elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership at the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The Consul-General attributed the trade expansion to deepening cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, investment, culture, and education. She also commended China's economic resilience, noting a 5.3% GDP growth in the first half of 2025, despite global uncertainties. Furthermore, she acknowledged the contributions of the Chinese community in Nigeria to cultural exchanges and local development.
This significant increase in trade volume reflects the growing economic collaboration between Nigeria and China, with both nations poised to explore further opportunities for mutual growth and development.
