Nigeria TV Info â Dangote Group, Ethiopia Partner on $2.5 Billion Urea Fertiliser Plant
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia â In a landmark move that sets a new record for African industrial investment, the Dangote Group has launched a $2.5 billion joint venture urea fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia. The project, in partnership with the Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), will have the capacity to produce three million metric tons of urea fertiliser annually.
Africaâs richest man and President/Group Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, announced the investment at the groundbreaking ceremony held in Ethiopia on Friday.
âThis is a historic moment, as it marks the first time a private African investor is entering into a partnership with an African government to build such an industrial complex,â Dangote said. âThis venture will not only boost Ethiopiaâs agricultural sector but also pave the way for food security and industrial growth across the continent.â
Dangote emphasised that the collaboration with EIH, the strategic investment arm of the Ethiopian government, reflects their shared vision to industrialise Africa and strengthen agricultural productivity. He noted that the plant would position Ethiopia as one of the biggest agricultural hubs in Africa.
Meanwhile, back in Nigeria, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, publicly declared his support for the Dangote Refinery amid its dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN). Oshiomhole praised the refinery project as a critical asset for national development and urged stakeholders to resolve differences in the interest of the economy.
The fertiliser project in Ethiopia is expected to generate thousands of jobs, improve agricultural yields, and reduce Africaâs reliance on imported fertilisers. It also reinforces Dangote Groupâs strategic expansion across the continent, coming after its record-breaking refinery project in Nigeria.
