NNPC Reaffirms Target to Produce 2 Million Barrels of Oil Per Day by 2027, Seeks Global Partnerships to End Energy Poverty in Africa
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ramping up Nigeriaâs crude oil production to 2 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2027, as part of broader efforts to address energy poverty across the African continent.
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, Bayo Ojulari, stated this on Tuesday during an âEnergy Talkâ session at the ongoing Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2025) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Speaking in a conversation moderated by global energy expert and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Daniel Yergin, Ojulari highlighted Nigeriaâs strategic position in Africaâs energy development landscape. He noted that the NNPC is leading the push for sustainable energy growth and increased energy security across the region.
According to Ojulari, Nigeriaâs current oil production has risen to 1.7 million bpd, and the projection of 2 million bpd by 2027 â with a longer-term ambition of 3 million bpd â is anchored on renewed collaboration between NNPC, International Oil Companies (IOCs), and local independents.
He explained that the company has resolved historical challenges in joint venture operations by adopting a new partnership model focused on shared value, cost efficiency, and transparent accountability.
> âNNPC is not only committed to growing Nigeriaâs oil production but also to ensuring that Africaâs energy future is secure. To achieve this, we are seeking bold investments and strategic global partnerships,â Ojulari said.
