NNPC/Heirs Energies JV Doubles Gas Output After Landmark Rigless Well Recompletion

The NNPC/Heirs Energies Joint Venture (JV) has announced a milestone achievement following the successful rigless recompletion of a major non-associated gas well in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 17 — a groundbreaking move described as the first of its kind in Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications at Heirs Energies, Chidimma Ugbojiaku, the innovative intervention has doubled the JV’s gas production capacity, reaching a peak of 135 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d).

This surge in output is expected to significantly enhance domestic gas supply, improve power generation stability across Nigeria’s eastern corridor, and strengthen the country’s energy security efforts.

The partners noted that the breakthrough marks a major step forward in Nigeria’s quest to maximise its gas resources, drive industrial growth, and support the federal government’s transition toward cleaner energy.

The NNPC/Heirs Energies JV continues to position itself as a key player in the national gas expansion agenda, with this historic recompletion setting a new benchmark for efficient, low-cost field development in the industry.
