National Assembly, MDAs Set to Re-Gazette Tax Laws to Boost Compliance and Revenue

The National Assembly has announced plans to collaborate closely with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to re-gazette Nigeria’s tax laws, in a move expected to streamline compliance, close loopholes, and improve revenue collection.
According to legislative leaders, the effort will ensure that outdated provisions are updated, conflicting regulations are harmonised, and modern tax realities — including digital transactions — are properly captured. Committees on finance, taxation and legal matters will jointly supervise the process, while stakeholders such as business groups and civil society are to be consulted.
Lawmakers say the re-gazetting exercise will not introduce arbitrary taxes but will instead clarify existing laws, strengthen enforcement, and create a more predictable fiscal environment to support investment and economic growth. MDAs have been directed to fast-track documentation so that implementation can commence once approved.
