FAAC Sub‑Committees Receive ₦11.5bn for 2026 Budget Planning
Nigeria’s Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has authorised the transfer of ₦11.5 billion from the 0.5 per cent Stabilisation Fund to finance sub‑committee activities involved in preparing the 2026 national budget framework, official documents show.
The withdrawal, approved on January 28, 2026 by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, was specifically to support FAAC sub‑committees tasked with developing key components of the 2026 proposed budget.
According to the Stabilisation Fund account statement, the ₦11.5bn transfer formed part of a series of transactions recorded between November 2025 and February 2026. Before the deduction, the fund had a cumulative balance of ₦61.11bn; the withdrawal reduced the available balance to around ₦49.61bn before subsequent inflows lifted it to ₦54.27bn by February 20.
The FAAC sub‑committees play a critical role in shaping Nigeria’s fiscal blueprint, working on areas including revenue projections, macroeconomic assumptions and expenditure planning — elements that underpin the N58.18 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly in December 2025.
As the budget defence process continues in the National Assembly’s committees, ministries and agencies are defending their allocations ahead of harmonisation and final passage. The Senate has tentatively scheduled March 17, 2026 for final consideration and passage of the appropriation bill.
Fiscal and economic analysts say deploying Stabilisation Fund resources for FAAC planning underscores the emphasis on coordinated fiscal planning across federal, state and local government levels to strengthen budget credibility and execution.
