Dangote Refinery Imports First UAE Crude Cargoes Amid Feedstock Diversification

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has imported its first-ever crude oil cargoes from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a significant step in its strategy to diversify crude supply sources and strengthen refining operations.

According to industry reports, the refinery secured two cargoes of UAE crude as it continues to expand beyond its traditional reliance on Nigerian and United States crude oil. The move comes amid persistent challenges in sourcing sufficient domestic crude despite Nigeria's status as Africa's leading oil producer.

Energy analysts say the refinery's decision reflects a broader commercial strategy aimed at ensuring a steady and flexible supply of crude grades suitable for its 650,000 barrels-per-day processing capacity. The refinery has also imported crude from countries including Angola, Ghana, Libya and Guyana in recent months to optimize production.

The diversification is expected to help the refinery maintain stable production of petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and other petroleum products while reducing disruptions caused by local supply constraints. Industry experts believe the move could further strengthen Nigeria's position as a growing exporter of refined petroleum products across Africa and beyond.
