Nigeria TV Info reports: The Director General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, has revealed that the agency has commenced enforcement talks with state governments and private sector employers to ensure full implementation of the now mandatory health insurance policy across Nigeria. According to Dr. Ohiri, before the amendment of the NHIA Act two years ago, enrollment in health insurance was optional, which led to poor coverage, especially within the private sector. He emphasized that with the new law making health insurance compulsory, enforcement is now a top priority. Speaking exclusively to PUNCH Healthwise, he stated that NHIA is collaborating with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and key states like Lagos to establish frameworks that will guarantee compliance and nationwide enforcement of the health insurance mandate.
