Oyo Confirms Lassa Fever Case, Activates Emergency Response Measures
The Oyo State Government has confirmed a new case of Lassa fever within its jurisdiction, prompting immediate activation of emergency response protocols to prevent further spread of the viral disease.
According to health authorities, the case was detected through routine surveillance by medical officials after the patient presented symptoms consistent with Lassa fever, including high fever, weakness, and hemorrhagic signs. The patient has since been isolated and is receiving treatment at a designated government health facility.
The State Ministry of Health stated that rapid response teams have been deployed to trace and monitor all possible contacts linked to the confirmed case. Public health education campaigns have also been intensified across communities to raise awareness on preventive measures.
Commissioner for Health emphasized that the government is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ensure effective containment. Residents have been urged to maintain hygiene practices, store food properly, and avoid contact with rodents, which are primary carriers of the virus.
Authorities reassured the public that there is no cause for panic, noting that early detection and coordinated response significantly reduce the risk of outbreak escalation. Surveillance efforts across health facilities in the state have also been strengthened.
