Ekiti 2026: Fayose and Local Community back  Governor Oyebanji’s Re-election Bid

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and a prominent socio-cultural group from Ikole Local Government Area have publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji's re-election for the 2026 governorship election. This marks a significant development in Ekiti politics, as Fayose is a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose's endorsement came during the submission of Oyebanji’s nomination forms at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja. He expressed confidence that Oyebanji would not only match but surpass his own electoral record of winning all 16 local government areas in the state. Fayose predicted that Oyebanji would secure victories in all 177 wards, emphasizing that the governor's performance would "silence fake prophecies and prophets" .

The endorsement from the Ikole socio-cultural group further solidifies Oyebanji's support base. The group commended the governor for his inclusive governance and development initiatives, highlighting his efforts to unite the state despite political differences.

Governor Oyebanji's re-election campaign has also garnered support from various stakeholders, including labor unions, youth organizations, and students, who have praised his leadership and achievements . However, his bid has not been without controversy. Some members of the APC have alleged attempts by the governor's camp to intimidate party chairmen at the local government and ward levels to suppress other aspirants .

As the 2026 governorship election approaches, the political landscape in Ekiti continues to evolve, with endorsements and rivalries shaping the discourse. Governor Oyebanji's ability to maintain broad support across political lines will be crucial in determining the outcome of the forthcoming election.
