Air Peace Crew Test Positive for Drugs, Alcohol After Runway Incident — Preliminary Report

A preliminary investigation has revealed that crew members of a Boeing 737-524 aircraft, with registration number 5N-BQQ, operated by Air Peace Limited, tested positive for drug and alcohol consumption.

The report, released by aviation investigators, detailed that the incident occurred on July 13, when the aircraft was conducting a scheduled domestic flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt with 103 passengers and crew on board.

According to the findings, the aircraft landed long on runway 21 after an unstabilised final approach. It was confirmed that the aircraft touched down 2,264 metres from the runway threshold and eventually came to a stop 209 metres into the clearway.

No fatalities or injuries were reported, but investigators say the outcome could have been disastrous. Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the crew’s drug and alcohol test results, adding that further safety and disciplinary measures will be taken.

The probe is ongoing, with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) expected to release a final report with safety recommendations.
