Osun APC Council Chairmen Sue FG, Governor Adeleke Over Tenure Extension to 2028

Nigeria TV Info – The crisis rocking local government councils in Osun State has worsened as All Progressives Congress (APC) officials have dragged the Federal Government and Governor Ademola Adeleke before a Federal High Court, seeking an extension of their tenure in office.

The APC officials, in an originating summons, prayed the court to declare that their tenure, which was meant to end in October 2025, be elongated till February 2028.

The officials were initially elected in October 2022, but Governor Adeleke removed them after a Federal High Court nullified the election. However, in February 2025, reports indicated that the Court of Appeal reinstated them to office.

Despite this, new officials elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were sworn in after the February 22 local government elections, further fueling the crisis.

Since then, both political parties have laid claims to council leadership, prompting the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to abandon work while local council allocations remain withheld.

In the fresh originating summons filed by Muhideen Adeoye on behalf of Saheed Onibonokuta and seven other APC council chairmen, the officials urged the court to extend their tenure till February 19, 2028.
