Nigeria TV Info – El-Rufai Accuses President Tinubu of Plotting to Rule for Life

Abuja, Nigeria – Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, over the weekend accused President Bola Tinubu of planning to stay in office indefinitely, citing what he described as clear indications from recent actions of the current All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.

Speaking during a solidarity visit from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, el-Rufai criticized the President, labeling him a “fake democrat,” particularly in the wake of alleged attacks on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) across parts of the country.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) further compared Tinubu’s ambitions to those of some long-serving African leaders who have refused to relinquish power, suggesting that the President intended to emulate such “sit-tight” tendencies.

El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, had initially thrown his support behind Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, helping to mobilize votes, especially in northern Nigeria. However, his aspirations to serve in Tinubu’s cabinet were thwarted after his ministerial nomination was blocked—a move he and his supporters perceived as a betrayal.

Since then, el-Rufai’s public criticism of Tinubu has intensified, focusing on what he describes as the President’s governance style and the limited impact of his economic reforms.
