2027: APC, Opposition List Expectations for Next INEC Chair

As Nigeria edges closer to the 2027 general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties have begun setting out their expectations for the incoming chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The APC emphasized the need for a credible, technology-driven leadership that can consolidate recent reforms and ensure seamless election processes. Party leaders stressed the importance of transparency, independence, and the ability to withstand political pressures.

On their part, opposition parties called for a chairman with proven integrity and neutrality, warning against any attempt to impose a partisan figure. They urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to prioritize competence and fairness, insisting that the survival of Nigeria’s democracy depends on free and credible elections.
