President Tinubu Meets Former Rivers Administrator Ibas at Aso Rock Amidst Financial Scrutiny
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted a significant meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, involving Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, alongside the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.
Ibas, who concluded his six-month tenure as Rivers State Administrator on September 17, was summoned to the Villa at approximately 6:00 p.m. His arrival coincided with Edun and Olukoyede, who had earlier been seen entering and exiting the Villa, the latter returning with a file, indicating the meeting's serious nature.
The timing of this meeting is notable, following the Rivers State House of Assembly's call for an investigation into the administration's expenditures during Ibas' tenure. The Assembly's resolution seeks to examine the processes and approvals related to spending from the state's consolidated revenue fund, particularly concerning contract awards and other expenditures.
While the specifics of the discussions remain undisclosed, sources close to the President suggest that the meeting pertains to Ibas' stewardship during the emergency rule in Rivers State. The presence of EFCC Chairman Olukoyede underscores the possibility of ongoing financial scrutiny. However, when reached for comment, Ibas' media aide, Hector Igbikiowubo, stated he was unaware of the meeting but promised to provide further information after inquiring.
This development adds to the political dynamics in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara resumed office on September 18 following the termination of the emergency rule. The call for an investigation into Ibas' administration reflects ongoing concerns over governance and financial management in the state.
As the situation unfolds, the public awaits official statements that may shed light on the outcomes of the meeting and any subsequent actions regarding the financial oversight of Rivers State during the emergency period.
