Nigeria TV Info â Russia Launches Massive Airstrikes on Ukraine, Killing Civilians and Causing Widespread Damage
Kyiv, Ukraine â Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyivâs military administration, reported via the Telegram messaging app that a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine resulted in at least three fatalities and about ten injuries in Kyiv. Among the dead, one has been reported as a 12-year-old girl, though Tkachenko stressed this detail has not been officially confirmed, Reuters reported.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the assault as a âmassiveâ air attack involving hundreds of missiles and drones, calling for stronger sanctions against Russia to halt its aggression. âPutin must feel the danger of continuing this war â personally for him, his buddiesâ pockets, his economy, and his regime,â Sybiha said on X, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin. âThat is what can make him stop this senseless war.â
The strikes were not limited to Kyiv. In the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, authorities reported at least 16 injuries, including three children. Video footage circulating on social media showed extensive damage to multiple buildings, many engulfed in flames following the strikes.
Witnesses described hours of drone activity over Kyiv, accompanied by anti-aircraft fire and loud explosions. By 9:15 a.m. (0615 GMT), the attack was still ongoing. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that one of the strikes caused a fire at a state cardiological hospital.
Some residents sought safety in underground metro stations, sleeping on improvised beds or sitting with phones for updates. In response to the heightened threat, neighbouring Poland closed airspace near two southeastern cities and scrambled air force jets.
The latest assault underscores a dangerous escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, raising fears of further humanitarian crises.
