Adamawa ADC Issues Ultimatum to Atiku Abubakar Over Membership Registration

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has given former Vice President Atiku Abubakar a firm deadline to formally register as a member of the party. The party's state chairman, Shehu Yohanna, emphasized that Atiku, along with other prominent figures like former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, must complete their membership registration at their respective wards—Atiku in Jada Local Government Area and Babachir in Hong Local Government Area—before the end of the year. Failure to do so will result in their removal from the party's membership register.

Yohanna stressed that only individuals with valid membership cards would be recognized as legitimate members of the ADC. He pointed out that holding leadership positions within the party without proper registration undermines its constitutional integrity. The ADC has recently unveiled its official membership register, reinforcing the importance of formal enrollment for all members.

This development follows a broader directive from the ADC's national leadership, which has instructed all coalition members to resign from their current political parties and fully register with the ADC. However, this directive has been met with resistance from some quarters, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who have dismissed the ADC's move as inconsequential.

Atiku's planned membership registration event in his hometown of Jada, initially scheduled for August, was postponed indefinitely without explanation. Speculation suggests that the delay may be linked to ongoing discussions within the ADC regarding the party's presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections. Notably, former President Goodluck Jonathan has also been in talks with the ADC about a potential presidential bid, leading to concerns among some party members about the distribution of the party's leadership positions.

As the ADC prepares for the upcoming elections, the party's leadership is emphasizing the need for all members, especially those seeking significant roles, to adhere to its constitutional requirements. The ultimatum to Atiku Abubakar underscores the party's commitment to maintaining organizational integrity and ensuring that all members are formally recognized.
