Obi won’t join ‘dollarised’ primaries, Obidients reply Atiku
Supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, have dismissed a call by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar suggesting that Obi should align with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation for 2027.
The Obidient Movement, reacting sharply on Thursday, said Obi’s politics is rooted in transparency, accountability, and people-driven processes, not what they described as the “dollarised primaries” that have become the hallmark of mainstream political parties.
According to them, Obi represents a new political culture and cannot be pressured into joining forces with parties whose internal democracy is dominated by money politics.
A spokesperson of the group said, “Our principal, Mr. Peter Obi, has shown that elections must not be about who spends the most dollars but about competence, character, and capacity. Nigerians deserve leaders chosen on merit, not the highest bidder.”
They further stressed that the movement remains focused on building a credible alternative platform for Nigerians tired of recycled politicians.
The development follows Atiku’s recent statement that opposition leaders must unite ahead of the 2027 polls to challenge the ruling APC, suggesting Obi and others should work under one umbrella.
However, Obidients insist that any coalition must be based on shared values and principles, not money politics, which they say Obi has consistently rejected.
