FCT Minister Flags Off Solar-Powered Streetlight Project in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), recently flagged off a solar-powered streetlight project across key areas of Abuja, aiming to enhance security, reduce electricity costs, and promote sustainable energy usage in the capital city.

The minister noted that the initiative is part of the FCT administration’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and integrating renewable energy solutions into public services. “This project will not only improve safety at night but also support our environmental goals by reducing reliance on fossil-fuel-powered electricity,” the minister said.

Residents expressed optimism, stating that the new solar-powered lights will significantly reduce crime in poorly lit neighborhoods and provide more reliable street lighting even during power outages.

The project is expected to be implemented in phases, covering major roads, residential areas, and commercial districts across the FCT, with completion anticipated within the next year.
