Nigeria TV Info â Kano Government Escalates Clash with Police Commissioner, Petitions NSA Over Independence Day Boycott
Kano, Nigeria â The rift between the Kano State Government and the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has intensified, as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has formally written a petition to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), demanding action against the police chief.
The dispute came to a head during the 65th Independence Day celebration when Governor Yusuf accused CP Bakori of deliberately boycotting the national parade, an act he described as âunacceptable, and a betrayal of the trust of both the people and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.â
Addressing the gathering, the governor said:
> âI therefore wish to seize the opportunity to call on the President, whom we know as a no-nonsense man, to remove the Commissioner of Police from Kano today. On behalf of all of you, I am writing a petition against him through the office of the National Security Adviser for onward submission to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.â
However, the Commissioner of Police did not publicly comment on the governorâs allegations. A senior police source, speaking anonymously, claimed the controversy was deeper than the parade incident. He argued that the October 1st national parade had already been officially canceled, dismissing the governorâs claims as misleading.
The source further alleged that Governor Yusuf has a long history of strained relations with security agencies in the state. According to him, the governor has clashed with at least three previous Commissioners of Police within his two years in office, raising concerns over his administrationâs handling of law enforcement matters.
As the petition awaits federal response, political observers say the development could heighten tensions between the Kano State Government and security authorities in the coming weeks.
