Nigeria TV Info â Police Suspend Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit Policy After Talks with NBA
Abuja â The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy following deliberations with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The suspension, announced in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, comes despite the absence of a formal court order halting the implementation of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991.
Hundeyin explained that the decision was taken by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, after receiving a delegation from the NBA led by its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN). The meeting addressed key issues surrounding the enforcement of the controversial tinted glass law.
> âThe Nigeria Police Force, while noting that there is no clear court order stopping the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991, has, out of consideration for the interest of Nigerians and regard for the Nigerian Bar Association, temporarily suspended the enforcement of the Act, pending the outcome of the hearing of the Motion on Notice slated for 16th October 2025, at the Federal High Court, Warri, Delta State,â Hundeyin stated.
He further disclosed that a Police-NBA Joint Committee has been inaugurated to foster cooperation and improve relations between the Force and the legal body.
The Police advised motorists to take advantage of the temporary suspension to regularise their vehicle documents and ensure compliance with existing regulations governing the use of shaded or tinted glass.
The decision marks a significant step towards resolving lingering concerns over the enforcement of the tinted glass policy, which has been a source of friction between motorists, the Police, and civil rights advocates.
