Nigeria TV Info — Nigerian Army Leverages AI to Combat Terrorist Disinformation

Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigerian Army has taken significant steps to fight terrorist propaganda by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into its information verification processes. As part of this initiative, Army Public Relations Officers and journalists were trained on the effective use of AI for fact-checking claims, photographs, and videos.

The training was held during the Nigerian Army Directorate of Public Relations’ Combined Third and Fourth Quarter Media Training Seminar in Abuja, where organisers placed strong emphasis on fact-checking through AI technology.

Summarising a session on fact-checking, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, stated that enhancing fact-checking capabilities will empower her directorate — and, by extension, the media — to more effectively counter terrorist narratives and misinformation.

In her closing remarks, Colonel Anele warned that propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation have evolved into dangerous weapons wielded by terrorists, secessionists, economic saboteurs, and their collaborators.

She stressed that in today’s complex security environment, victory depends not only on military strength but also on mastery of information. She said: “Our collective task is to ensure these falsehoods do not erode public trust, weaken national morale, or undermine the sacrifices of our gallant troops who daily confront enemies of our state.”

The seminar underscores the Nigerian Army’s growing commitment to leveraging technology in safeguarding national security and strengthening public trust.
