Four Soldiers Killed as Terrorists Attack Military Base in Borno with Grenades

Four Nigerian soldiers have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack by terrorists on a military base in Borno State on Friday night. The assault, reportedly carried out by fighters suspected to be members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), occurred in the outskirts of Mafa Local Government Area.

According to security sources, the insurgents stormed the base in large numbers, using rocket-propelled grenades and heavy gunfire to overwhelm the troops. The fierce exchange lasted over an hour before reinforcements arrived from nearby formations. Despite resistance from the soldiers, four personnel were killed, and several others sustained injuries.

Military authorities have since launched a manhunt for the attackers, deploying air support to track fleeing terrorists. Local sources reported that several civilians in nearby communities fled for safety during the attack.

The latest assault underscores the persistent insecurity in parts of the North-East, where the Nigerian military continues counter-terrorism operations to eliminate remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.
