Nigeria TV Info — Tinubu to Attend Aqaba Process Summit in Rome to Address West Africa’s Security Crisis

Abuja, Nigeria — October 12, 2025: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Sunday depart Abuja for Rome, Italy, to participate in the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Level Meeting, which will focus on tackling the worsening security crisis in West Africa.

According to a statement released on Saturday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the high-level summit will commence on October 14 and will bring together Heads of State and Government, senior intelligence and military officials from African nations, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organizations.

The Aqaba Process, launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, is a global counter-terrorism initiative co-chaired by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Government of Italy. The forum aims to strengthen coordination in addressing evolving security threats, particularly in regions vulnerable to terrorism and organized crime.

The meeting will examine the expansion of terrorist networks, the growing nexus between crime and terrorism, and the overlap between land-based terrorism in the Sahel and maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea—two key security concerns for West Africa.

Participants are expected to share intelligence insights, assess the regional security landscape, and propose new strategies to enhance cross-border cooperation and counter-terrorism measures both on land and at sea.

Discussions will also focus on combating online radicalisation and dismantling digital networks that spread extremist propaganda and aid terrorist recruitment.

During his stay in Rome, President Tinubu will also hold bilateral talks with other world leaders to explore collaborative measures aimed at strengthening regional stability and addressing the rising insecurity across West Africa.
