Africa Records Highest Weekly Cyberattacks Amid GenAI Surge
Africa has now claimed the top spot globally, averaging 3,365 weekly cyberattacks per organization, a 14 % year-on-year increase, according to Check Pointâs Q2 2025 report.
The wave of attacks is being driven in part by widespread adoption of generative AI tools, which create new vulnerabilities. One in every 54 GenAI prompts in enterprise settings exposed high-risk data leakage.
Angola was Africaâs most attacked country in September 2025, facing 3,045 attacks per organization weekly, followed by Kenya (3,000), Nigeria (2,749), and South Africa (2,054).
On the continent, sectors like telecommunications, government, and consumer goods are the hardest hit.
Meanwhile, INTERPOLâs African Cyberthreat Assessment warns that scams, ransomware, and AI-driven fraud are escalating. Some nations saw scam reports spike by up to 3,000 %.
