Nigeria TV Info â DSS Memo Warns of Possible ISWAP Attacks in Ondo and Kogi States
Akure, Nigeria â October 22, 2025
A confidential security memo from the Department of State Services (DSS) has raised concerns over a possible coordinated attack by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) targeting parts of Ondo and Kogi States.
According to the leaked document, which was addressed to the Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, intelligence reports indicated that ISWAP operatives were planning assaults on selected communities including Eriti-Akoko and Oyin-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, as well as Owo town in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The DSS memo, dated October 20, 2025, and signed by Hi Kana on behalf of the State Director of Security, revealed that the terrorist group had commenced surveillance on soft targets within the identified regions. The agency consequently directed security operatives to increase vigilance and strengthen preventive measures to forestall potential attacks.
The report emphasized the need for coordinated intelligence sharing among military and security agencies to ensure proactive responses to emerging threats.
Reacting to the development, the Ondo State Government confirmed awareness of the security advisory, clarifying that the leaked memo formed part of routine inter-agency intelligence communication and not an indication of an immediate crisis.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, the government described the leaked DSS memo as a standard security precaution. He assured residents that the stateâs security architecture remained on high alert and that measures were being reinforced to guarantee the safety of lives and property.
> âThe Ondo State Government wishes to assure citizens that there is no cause for panic. The DSS memo in circulation is a routine advisory meant to enhance coordination among security agencies,â the statement read.
The government also urged the public to remain calm, report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities, and support ongoing efforts to maintain peace across the state.
