Faith Leaders Accuse Government of Complicity in Rising Religious Killings Across Nigeria

Prominent faith leaders across Nigeria have accused government authorities of complicity in the surge of religious killings and targeted attacks against worshippers. Speaking at a multi-faith conference in Abuja, clerics from Christian, Muslim, and traditional religious bodies expressed deep concern over what they described as “state-sponsored negligence and silence” in the face of growing religious intolerance.

The leaders warned that the failure of security agencies to investigate and prosecute perpetrators has emboldened extremists, leading to increased violence in several states. They called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to demonstrate fairness in handling religious crises and ensure justice for victims, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

According to the group, Nigeria’s unity and stability are at risk if urgent action is not taken to curb sectarian violence. They also urged the National Assembly to enact stronger laws protecting religious freedom and holding state actors accountable for complicity or inaction.
