Ex-Governor Timipre Sylva Denies Involvement in Alleged Coup Plot, Confirms Military Raid on His Home
Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has vehemently denied any role in the recent alleged coup attempt against President Bola Tinubuâs administration.
His media aide, Julius Bokoru, described the allegations as âpolitically motivatedâ and attributed them to rivals seeking to damage Sylvaâs credibility ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sylva confirmed that a team believed to be operatives from the Defence Headquarters raided his Abuja residence, causing significant damage. He said neither he nor his wife was in Nigeria at the time; he was on a medical visit in the United Kingdom.
He reiterated that he has no connectionâwhether in planning or logisticsâto any purported coup plot, and reaffirmed his loyalty to the current administration.
Security sources say at least 16 military officers have been detained in connection with the investigation; Sylvaâs raid is part of that unfolding story.
