Wike Kicks as Oyo Court Lifts PDP Convention Ban

A fresh twist has emerged in the ongoing leadership tussle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an Oyo State High Court has lifted the earlier order restraining the party from holding its national convention. The decision, delivered on Tuesday, paves the way for the PDP to proceed with plans for its long-awaited convention aimed at addressing internal divisions.

Reacting swiftly, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, expressed strong disapproval of the ruling, accusing some party leaders of manipulating the judiciary to favor their faction. Wike, who has been at the center of the PDP power struggle, warned that the decision could deepen the crisis rather than resolve it.

Party sources revealed that loyalists of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have welcomed the judgment, describing it as “a victory for democracy and party unity.” However, Wike’s camp insists that due process must be followed before any convention is convened.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to meet in Abuja later this week to decide on the new date and venue for the convention, as tensions remain high among rival blocs.
