I Used My Position to Serve Humanity – Ex-CJN Ariwoola

Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has stated that his tenure in office was guided by a deep sense of duty and commitment to the service of humanity. Speaking at a valedictory session held in his honour at the Supreme Court in Abuja, Ariwoola reflected on his time as the head of Nigeria’s judiciary, emphasizing that he strove to uphold justice, fairness, and the integrity of the judicial system.

He expressed gratitude to God, his colleagues, and Nigerians for their support during his service, noting that every decision he made was aimed at strengthening the judiciary and promoting the rule of law. Ariwoola urged serving judicial officers to remain steadfast in defending justice, despite political and social pressures.

The retired CJN also called on the government to prioritize judicial independence and provide adequate resources to enhance the efficiency of the courts. “I did my best with the fear of God, knowing that the position I held was not for personal gain but for the good of the nation,” he stated.

Justice Ariwoola retired after reaching the mandatory retirement age, leaving behind a legacy of reforms, judicial discipline, and institutional accountability.
