Ibadan Convention: PDP Delegates Arrive Amid Saraki’s Cancellation Move

Ibadan — Delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from across Nigeria have begun arriving in Ibadan, Oyo State, ahead of the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15–16.
Despite the buildup, the convention faces a major hurdle: former Senate President Bukola Saraki has publicly urged the party to suspend the event. He argues that moving ahead amid internal judicial disputes and unresolved leadership rifts could deepen the party’s crisis.
On the ground in Ibadan, hotels and the convention venue are bustling as state, local government and zonal delegates check in. The atmosphere is tense yet hopeful: some see the gathering as a chance to reset the party’s direction, others warn of chaos if the leadership vacuum persists.
With Saraki’s cancellation call raising questions about legitimacy and authority within the PDP, the convention’s success may hinge on whether key factions reconcile or a split emerges.
Across Ibadan, security officials and party logistics teams are in high gear, setting up accreditation centres, registration booths and media zones. Meanwhile, delegates are organising themselves, with caucus meetings and informal strategy sessions already underway.
As the clock ticks down to the formal opening of the convention, all eyes are on whether the event will proceed smoothly — or whether Saraki’s intervention will derail proceedings.
