Tinubu Reappoints Marwa as NDLEA Chairman for Another 5-Year Term

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), extending his leadership for another five-year term.

According to a statement released on Friday by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the renewed mandate means Marwa will continue to head the agency until 2031.

Marwa, a retired military officer from Adamawa State, was first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021. Before then, he served as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA) from 2018 to December 2020.

His tenure at the NDLEA has been widely praised for its aggressive anti-narcotics campaign. Under his leadership, the agency has recorded major breakthroughs, including the arrest of over 73,000 drug mules and barons and the seizure of more than 15 million kilogrammes of assorted hard drugs across the country.

The reappointment is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms and intensify the national fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
