Against All Odds: Ex-Minister Turaki Endorsed as PDP National Chairman
In a dramatic political turn, former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has been endorsed by Northern stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as their consensus candidate for National Chairman ahead of the partyâs national convention on November 15â16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Turaki, a legal expert respected for his work in constitutional law and arbitration, submitted his nomination form to the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, his camp confirming that the submission was duly received.
The endorsement decision came after intensive consultations involving leaders from all 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, with the chairmanship slot micro-zoned to the North-West region, aiming to foster unity and equity within the party.
While some states, notably Kebbi, have rejected the imposition of Turaki without broader zonal consultation, his backers argue that his legal and political acumen makes him well-suited to lead the PDP into a revival.
Supporters from the group PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice (PAPaJ) express optimism that Turakiâs emergence signals a new chapter for the party, positioning it strategically for the 2027 elections.
