US, Ukraine Report Major Progress on Updated Peace Framework in Geneva

The United States and Ukraine have announced significant progress toward an “updated and refined peace framework” aimed at bringing an end to the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war. The development follows what both countries described as “highly productive” negotiations held in Geneva over the weekend.

In a joint statement released on Sunday, officials confirmed that discussions on the US-backed proposal will continue intensively in the coming days as negotiators work to resolve the remaining sticking points.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Geneva round produced “a tremendous amount of progress” toward closing gaps in the 28-point draft plan. He noted that while negotiators had “a very good day,” some contentious areas still required additional work before any final document could be completed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed cautious optimism, saying there were encouraging “signals that President Trump’s team is hearing us.”

Rubio explained that the primary goal of the meeting was to reduce the number of unresolved items in the draft framework — an objective he said was achieved “in a substantial way.” However, he stressed that no proposal would move forward without the approval of both the US and Ukrainian presidents.

The updated peace framework, once finalized, is expected to be formally presented to Russia, marking a potentially critical step toward ending one of the most consequential conflicts of the decade.
