Fani-Kayode Cautions Against Rushing US-Nigeria Rapprochement Amid Security Crisis
Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has issued a warning over Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to improve ties with the United States in the midst of the country’s current security challenges.
In a two-page article titled The Word of the King of Mar-a-Lago (pages 9 & 10), Fani-Kayode cautioned that despite attempts to strengthen relations with the U.S., Nigerians must remain vigilant. He stated, “We must guard our hearts jealously or trust them at our own peril,” referring to recent threats and remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Fani-Kayode further emphasized that individuals or nations prone to violence are often incapable of honoring agreements or sustaining genuine friendship, even when they appear cooperative.
The former minister’s commentary adds a critical perspective to the ongoing diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and the United States, highlighting the need for caution and strategic vigilance in foreign relations.
