Ribadu: Nigeria Gains International Support in Fight Against Terrorists

The Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), has confirmed that the country is now receiving direct support from foreign partners — including United States, United Kingdom and France — in its battle against insurgency and terrorism.

Speaking during a visit to the parents of abducted students in Niger State, Ribadu said: “Many good people from all over the world are coming to support us, including the United States of America
especially European countries like France, United Kingdom and a couple of others.”

What this support entails

  • The cooperation includes enhanced intelligence-sharing, accelerated processing of defence equipment requests, and potential provision of excess U.S. defence articles to shore up Nigeria’s security operations.
  • A formal mechanism to coordinate the support — the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group — has been established. The group will oversee all collaborative efforts and ensure cohesive action against insurgent and extremist groups.

Ribadu expressed confidence that with this renewed international backing, Nigeria would overcome the insurgency that has plagued the country for decades.
