ADC Tells Peter Obi: Decide on Joining Party as 2027 Consultations Intensify

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to make a clear decision regarding his potential move to the party, stressing that while he is a highly influential political figure, the ADC will not pressure him into joining.

Speaking over the weekend, the party noted that Obi remains a valuable asset to any political coalition but insisted that the decision must come from him alone.

According to the ADC’s spokesman, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, other political heavyweights—including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State governor Nasiru El-Rufai—who had earlier indicated willingness to align with the ADC after the off-season elections, have already taken concrete steps to formalize their alignment.

Abdullahi stated that the party would not rush Obi, especially now that most off-season elections have been concluded, adding that the ADC’s main task at this stage is reassuring Nigerians that it represents a strong and credible political alternative ahead of 2027.
