Ndume Lauds Tinubu Over Improved Soldiers’ Kitting, Seeks Better Welfare Package
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the “visible improvement” in the kitting and operational gear of Nigerian soldiers across various theatres of operation.
Ndume, who spoke to journalists after an oversight visit to military formations in the North-East, said frontline troops now receive better-quality boots, uniforms, protective gear and communication equipment compared to previous years.
He noted, however, that while improvements in logistics and kitting are commendable, the Federal Government must prioritise a comprehensive salary upgrade, hazard allowances and timely payment of operational entitlements to motivate personnel risking their lives.
According to Ndume, better welfare is “not a favour but a moral responsibility,” adding that improved conditions would enhance morale and strengthen the overall effectiveness of the Armed Forces in tackling insecurity.
He urged the Ministry of Defence and service chiefs to work with the National Assembly to fast-track reforms already underway to ensure that soldiers and their families receive the support they deserve.
