Tinubu Administration Moves to Transform NIPSS into Globally Recognised Centre of Excellence by 2030
Abuja, Nigeria â President Bola Ahmed Tinubuâs government has reaffirmed its strategic commitment to reposition the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) as a digitally driven, financially stable and globally recognised centre of excellence by 2030, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced at the graduation ceremony of the Senior Executive Course 47 in Kuru, Plateau State.
Representing President Tinubu, Shettima said the transformation of NIPSS is central to the administrationâs broader agenda of strengthening evidence-based policymaking, leadership development, and research application in national decision-making frameworks. He described the institute as a strategic platform for nurturing thinkers, innovators and reform-oriented leaders whose outputs help shape policy and guide Nigeriaâs development path.
The Vice President stressed that government support will go beyond funding and infrastructure to ensure the institute produces implementation-ready policy papers whose recommendations are integrated into federal planning and execution. He emphasised the importance of linking academic work to Nigeriaâs realities, highlighting research on themes like the Blue Economy and sustainable development as illustrative of the instituteâs relevance to national priorities.
Officials, including the Director-General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, and the Chairman of the NIPSS Board, Senator Ken Nnamani, praised the federal governmentâs backing while underlining the instituteâs achievements under its current strategic plan. They reiterated that a globally competitive NIPSS would help address Nigeriaâs complex governance and security challenges through research-driven insights.
State leaders also lauded the policy think tankâs contributions, citing its potential to broaden governance perspectives and offer actionable solutions to national issues. The graduation event concluded with the presentation of certificates to the course participants, induction into the instituteâs alumni, and the inauguration of new housing units donated by the graduating class.
