Insecurity: Police Deploy Special Forces Ahead of NLC Protest Today

The Nigeria Police Force has deployed special tactical units and increased security presence across major cities ahead of the planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) scheduled for today. The deployment is aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order amid rising insecurity and public discontent.

According to police authorities, personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and other special squads have been stationed at strategic locations, including government buildings, major roads, and public facilities. The police said the move is purely preventive and intended to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

The NLC had announced the protest to draw attention to worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and the rising cost of living. Labour leaders insist the demonstration will be peaceful, urging security agencies to respect citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to protesters to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid acts capable of being hijacked by hoodlums. Residents in several states reported heightened patrols and checkpoints as authorities remain on alert throughout the protest period.
