Court Rules Ex-Minister Ngige to Remain on Administrative Bail

A court has ordered former Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, to remain on administrative bail pending the conclusion of investigations and further legal proceedings against him.

Delivering the ruling, the court held that the conditions for Ngige’s continued release had been met and that there was no sufficient basis at this stage to revoke the administrative bail earlier granted by investigators. The judge noted that the former minister had cooperated with relevant authorities and had not violated any of the terms attached to his bail.

Ngige, who served as labour minister under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, is reportedly being investigated over allegations linked to his tenure in office. His legal team had urged the court to uphold the bail, arguing that their client posed no flight risk and was willing to appear whenever required.

Counsel representing the prosecution did not oppose the continuation of administrative bail but requested that investigations be allowed to proceed without interference. The court subsequently directed all parties to maintain the status quo and adjourned the matter to a later date for further updates on the investigation.

The ruling means Ngige will remain free under existing bail conditions while the case progresses through the legal process.
