COAS Orders Major Training, Intelligence Reforms to Strengthen Nigerian Army
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered far-reaching reforms in training and intelligence as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the Nigerian Armyâs operational and administrative structures, aimed at building a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force.
Lieutenant General Shaibu issued the directive in his closing remarks at the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2025, held at Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks, Lagos.
He explained that the annual conference provided a critical platform to review the Armyâs operational and administrative performance in 2025, assess ongoing reforms, and set clear priorities that will guide policies and actions in the year ahead.
In a statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS said the Nigerian Army would immediately realign its training, operations, logistics and administrative processes in line with his Command Philosophy.
According to him, the Command Philosophy is designed to fast-track the transformation of the Nigerian Army and strengthen its capacity to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency operational environment.
Central to the reforms, Lieutenant General Shaibu announced a total overhaul of training curricula across all Nigerian Army training institutions, with emphasis on intelligence-driven operations, professionalism, adaptability, leadership development and modern warfare skills.
He stressed that the reforms would ensure that officers and soldiers are better prepared to respond to evolving security challenges across the country, while maintaining high ethical standards and operational efficiency.
The COAS reaffirmed the Armyâs commitment to supporting national security objectives and working closely with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property nationwide.
