Gunmen Abduct 28 Travellers in Plateau’s Wase LGA
Gunmen have reportedly abducted at least 28 travellers in Zak community, Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, heightening fresh concerns over insecurity in the region.
According to reports by PREMIUM TIMES, the victims—comprising men, women and children—were travelling from Zak village to Sabon Layi community on Sunday night to attend an Islamic event when they were attacked. The group was said to include two princes and a religious leader who were leading the delegation.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on the outskirts of the community, where the travellers were ambushed by armed men. The assailants allegedly abducted all the passengers and abandoned their vehicle by the roadside before fleeing the area.
Residents became alarmed on Monday morning after other road users discovered the abandoned vehicle, which was said to belong to a community leader in Zak. A search was immediately launched, and preliminary findings later confirmed that the vehicle had been conveying the abducted travellers.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security agencies on the incident, while efforts are ongoing to locate the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The abduction adds to growing security challenges in parts of Plateau State, with residents calling on authorities to intensify patrols and intelligence operations to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of travellers.
