FG Confirms US Airstrikes on Terrorists, Highlights Intelligence Cooperation

Abuja, Nigeria — December 26, 2025

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially confirmed that recent precision airstrikes on terrorist targets in the North West region were the result of structured security and intelligence cooperation with the United States of America.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa said Nigerian authorities “remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, in addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.”

The ministry explained that this collaboration — involving intelligence sharing, strategic coordination and operational support — led to precision airstrikes on identified terrorist positions in Nigeria’s North West. It stressed that all cooperation respects international law, mutual sovereignty and Nigeria’s national security interests.

The statement reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to protecting civilian lives, safeguarding national unity and defending the rights and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of religion or ethnicity. It condemned terrorism in all its forms as an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security.

The confirmation followed announcements by U.S. President Donald Trump that U.S. forces had carried out “powerful and deadly” strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) militants in northwest Nigeria, described as a response to ongoing extremist attacks. Washington’s Defence leadership said the operation was conducted with the cooperation of Nigerian authorities.

Nigeria’s government said it will continue to work closely with its international partners to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and financing, and prevent cross‑border threats, while strengthening Nigeria’s security and intelligence capabilities.
