The High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, and presided over by Justice Peace Otti, has sentenced a 44-year-old woman, Goodness Daniel, to five years imprisonment for her involvement in human trafficking. The sentence includes an option of a fine in the sum of âŠ2 million. The accused was arraigned by the Anambra State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). She was found guilty of trafficking, which involves the illegal buying and selling of persons, a crime that contravenes Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015. The court found overwhelming evidence establishing her involvement in the illicit trade, which led to her conviction.
