Togo, Niger, Benin Owe Nigeria N25bn for Electricity – NERC

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed that Togo, Niger, and Benin collectively owe Nigeria over N25 billion in unpaid electricity bills. The debt, accumulated over several years, stems from power supply agreements under the West African Power Pool. NERC emphasized that continued default by these countries could affect electricity supply stability in border regions and called for urgent settlement of the arrears. The commission also hinted at reviewing cross-border power agreements to ensure timely payment and avoid future defaults.
