HEDA Petitions EFCC Over Alleged Mismanagement of N30bn Bodija Explosion Fund
The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) has petitioned the EFCC over alleged misapplication of N30bn released by the Federal Government to Oyo State for compensation and reconstruction after the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan. In a January 5, 2026 petition, HEDA, led by Chairman Olanrewaju Suraju, questioned the status of the funds, noting that only N4.5bn was reportedly used for victimsâ relief while the remaining amount is unaccounted for.
The Oyo State Government had earlier stated that it received N30bn, which remained âuntouchedâ until the balance of N50bn is fully released. The state confirmed disbursing N4.085bn for victims and spending N24.6bn from its own resources on reconstruction.
HEDA called for EFCC to investigate possible diversion, abuse of office, and criminal breach of trust, stressing that constitutional immunity does not prevent probes into public fund management. The group demanded a transparent account of all intervention funds, including unspent balances.
Oyoâs Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, attributed ongoing controversy to 2027 election politics, reiterating the governmentâs position that the funds are intact.
